China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) is the think tank of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conducting research and analysis on a wide range of foreign policy issues. The Institute was founded in 1956 under the name of Institute of International Relations, and assumed the present name in December 1986. In 1998, China Center for International Affairs, formerly a research institution of China's State Council, was incorporated with CIIS.

The Institute consists of Departments for American Studies, Departments for Asia-Pacific Security and Cooperation, Departments for European Studies, Departments for Developing Countries Studies, Departments for European-Central Asian Studies, Departments for International and Strategic Studies, Department for World Economy and Development.

As the first English academic publication in China on diplomacy and international politics for formal circulation, the journal provides an influential forum for the discussion of important international issues and China's foreign policy.
