GCMS (China Center) Successfully Launched in Beijing

The launching ceremony of Global Center for Mekong Studies (China Center) was held at China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) in Beijing on September 19, 2017. Mr. Huang Xilian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech to express his congratulations on the establishment of the China Center. Mr. Huang presented the great significance of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and briefed the progress of the LMC. He emphasized that the Global Center for Mekong Studies was one of the thirteen initiatives proposed by Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China at the Second LMC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, in the hope that the Global Center would provide intellectual support for the LMC through active research and communications.

More than 50 guests participated in this event, including H.E. Mme. Khek M. Caimealy, Ambassador of Cambodia to China, H.E. Mme. Vandy Bouthasavong, Ambassador of Lao PDR to China, H.E. Mr. Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador of Myanmar to China, Mr. Vu Tien Dung, Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Vietnam in China, Mr. Karntimon Ruksakiati, Minister of Thai Embassy in China. Representatives from relevant international organizations, Chinese universities, think tanks and media attended as well. Mr. Su Ge, President of CIIS, Amb. Khek M. Caimealy and Mr. Lu Guangsheng, President of Institute of Southeast Asia Studies of Yunnan University, respectively gave speeches in the event. The launching ceremony was hosted by Mr. Rong Ying, Vice President of CIIS.
